The Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy in collaboration with The Institute of Surveyors of Trinidad and Tobago, The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, The Department of Surveying and Land Information, UWI, and The Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction, UWI presents an international workshop: Disaster Risk Reduction: the Role of the Land. The aim of the seminar/workshop is to critically examine the current roles of surveying in the effective and efficient management of the natural disaster risk reduction strategies of the Caribbean. The seminar would seek best practices, identify issues, and propose a roadmap towards the effective use of surveying tools and knowledge in the disaster risk reduction.
TOPICS: The seminar will address the following topical issues relevant to disaster risk reduction in the Caribbean:
1. Spatial information support for climate change adaptation and mitigation: some Canadian experiences;
2. Disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction: the role of cadastral records;
3. Improving the knowledge base of hazard maps and vulnerability assessment in the Caribbean;
4. The landuse politics of flooding: a case study of Trinidad; and
5. Advancing disaster mitigation capacity: the role of geo-imaging technologies.
