ME215 — PERFORMING MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT VALUATIONS FOR FINANCIAL REPORTING PURPOSES
Overview
The objective of this course is to introduce the MTS appraiser to the standards that govern valuations for financial reporting purposes; how they apply to MTS appraisers; and how these valuations are the same and differ from other valuations performed by experienced MTS appraisers. Some of the subjects which will be covered include: a brief outline of the standards; Fair Value definition and what it means for the MTS appraiser; makeup of the valuation team; how to deal with various issues regarding fixed asset records; a review of various Cost and Market Approach techniques and how to utilize them in these valuations; the review process and what to expect during a review; how to handle impairment valuations; and a “hands on” development of a simple computerized valuation model. This is an advanced course that assumes students are familiar with basic appraisal techniques. Students are required to bring a calculator (capable of calculating exponents) and a laptop which will be utilized for some of the examples.
