NEW YORK – August 3, 2010 – RICS Americas, the New York-based regional branch of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the world’s leading professional body for valuers across all asset classes, announced today that it has become the first International Sponsor of The Appraisal Foundation.

"This is a major step toward closer collaboration among the world's leading valuation standards organizations. Together, we continue to demonstrate that valuation is a robust profession, capable of speaking to issues with one voice, enforcing professional standards and providing consistent quality reports and services to clients," said RICS President, Robert Peto FRICS.

The Appraisal Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promulgation of professional appraisal standards and qualifications, appointed RICS as International Sponsor upon meeting the required criteria, including adoption of Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and demonstration of qualifying education, academic education, continuing education, experience and examination for those seeking an appraisal designation.

“We are very pleased to have RICS join the Foundation family. With a rich 140-year history and a global presence, it is truly a world class organization,” stated David Bunton, President of The Appraisal Foundation.

As the missions of RICS and The Appraisal Foundation closely align, the new relationship will increasingly benefit valuers and the appraisal profession and by enforcing the highest standards of competence and consistent quality service to the users of their services. Furthermore, the working relationship enables the professional bodies to speak to valuation issues with one voice, upholding public interest.

According to Bruce Bingham FRICS, Vice-Chairman of the RICS Americas Valuation Council, “this affirmation by The Appraisal Foundation confirms RICS’ position as a leader among professional bodies seeking to uphold and promote the highest standards in the appraisal business, in the United States and around the world.”
